“Bird Raptures” (poetry by Christina Rossetti) for soprano and solo flute was premiered at the Society of Composers Inc. (SCI) Region III Conference at Christopher Newport University, Newport News, Virginia, March 24, 2018. Performers were Rachel Holland, soprano, and Patti Watters, flute. Dr. Cheryl Coker performed the work on her faculty recital at Millsaps College, Jackson, Mississippi, on February 1, 2019. Dr. Coker, soprano, was joined by Gayle Entredin on flute. At the National Association of Music Teachers (NATS), Southern Region meeting at Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, Arkansas, in early November, 2019, Dr. Coker repeated the work, this time with flutist, Tara Schwab. The positive response of students and teachers at the recital resulted in a link to my website being posted on the NATS Southern Region web site through the end of this year. Dr. Coker also confirmed that she would be singing “Bird Raptures” for the fourth annual International Festival of Music by Women at Mississippi University for Women, Columbus, Mississippi, in March, 2020.
